Donors must identify themselves as a “Big Ten donor.”  Each donor will receive points (see point system below) that may be allocated toward the school of their choice.

Point System
The basis of this blood drive is a friendly competition amongst the Big Ten schools.  Detailed below are opportunities for schools to earn points towards this challenge.  The winner of the Challenge will be announced at the conclusion of the promotion.

  • Kickoff Party:   Each attendee who designates a school will receive one point.*
  • Whole Blood Donation:   Each presenting donor who identifies themselves a “Big Ten donor” and signs in on the specified tracking form at the blood donation center will receive five points.  All attempting donors that sign in will receive the points.
  • Apheresis (Platelet) Donation:   Each presenting donor that identifies themselves as a “Big Ten donor” and signs in on the specified tracking form at the donation center will receive 10 points. All attempting donors that sign in will receive the points.

The winner of the Challenge will be determined by the school that has the most number of points at the end of the drive.

Friends and family may donate toward an organization whether they are alumni or not.  They just must identify which school they are donating on behalf of and sign in.

Appointments

While not required, scheduling an appointment time for donation is strongly encouraged. This gives the Red Cross the ability to project how many donors will be coming to the centers and better prepare for those numbers.

Call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE (1-800-448-3543) for center hours or to schedule an appointment. Please specify that you want to donate for the Big Ten Blood Drive. Representatives will also be onsite at the Kickoff Party* to schedule appointments.

*Please note: Apheresis (platelet) donations must be scheduled this way and cannot be booked through the Web site currently.
